Retent (not erupted) teeth

The term "Retent tooth" comes from the Latin word "retentio", which means detained in piercing tooth, tooth that is not normal samples in time. Most often detain eight teeth (wisdom teeth) and third teeth (canines). This is because these teeth began last break when the jaws grow are almost finished and shaped its development and was not left place in tooth row. There are many other reasons such as heredity, shape of teeth, etc ..

That is why these teeth occupy a different position in relation to bone and other teeth. The fact that there is no place for them, cause them to exert pressure on the teeth. This can lead to destruction of the roots of otherwise healthy teeth or misalignment of teeth and improper bite arc with all the ensuing complications.

When partially break the bone can create conditions for the formation microorganisms "gate" or otherwise inflammatory process starts. This was associated with difficulty of mouth opening, respectively difficulty in eating, pain and swelling.

All this requires the removal of these teeth to become operational. This is a difficult and responsible task requiring high professional preparation by the dentist. Surgery is performed under local anesthesia and often after removal (extraction) of this tooth is formed too much bone wound, requiring placement of bone substituting materials. They promote their own bone more quickly to fill the bone defect.

Another issue concerns the manipulation is when they should be carried out such intervention. Currently, opinion is in favor of early extraction to avoid future complications. As the reasons may be mentioned still unformed roots, lack of infection, lack of adhesions surrounding the tooth with bone and soft tissue, a good general condition of the body and others.
